If someone can't come to your house maybe the fish can go to theirs? If it's only a 5 gallon tank it shouldn't be too difficult to move. He really shouldn't go without food for that long. He probably wont die but it's very unhealthy.

A healthy adult fish can go well over 5 days without being fed.
Feed your Betta the normal amount just before you leave, and as soon as you get home.
It's also a good idea to perform a partial water change the day that you leave.
If you're worried, you can buy an automatic feeder at any fish store.
Do NOT use feeder blocks. These are rarely recognized as food by the fish, and will continue to release into the water, leading to toxic water that WILL kill your fish.
On a side note, I hope you also have a heater to maintain the tank's temperature in the 78-82 degree zone.
Edit:
Do NOT, as another answerer suggested, feed "a lot" before you go. Food that sinks to the bottom will rot and result in toxic water/dead fish.

A betta fish can live comfortably for 2 WEEKS without food.
in the wild they do not always get something to eat each day.
on the day before you leave feed him 3 times during the day and he will be just fine without food for 4 days.
do not get those vacation feeders, the ones that dissolve over time. they pollute the tank and some people have came home to dead fish.

There are feeds that you can get at most pet stores that you just put in the water (its like a small pebble) and your fish nibbles of that till you get home . Their usually just called fish pellets . There is different types of fish pellets but if you go to your local pet shop they can help you find the right kind.

Don't worry... he will be fine.. my sister's boyfriend once didn't feed his betta, change the water or even give it light for 10 days while he came to the beach with us and it was fine when he got back. I know it's cruel though.

Ask a friend or neighbor, if they can't do it, give you're fish a lot. The fish food will sink to the bottom and when he's hungry he'll go down and eat it.

Try to ask a neighbor, friend, or relative if they could stop over and feed your fish for you

placed a lid on the tank and the cat won't have the skill to attain him, till he's an extremely smart cat. Then they have those locks you should use to fasten the lid down in case you like them.

If you don't have a friend/ neighbor you can ask to feed him, most pet stores sell "7 day feeders" or something similar which will slowly dissolve for him to eat.
