what is the appropriate age to start to play Xbox live?

I have a son who is 11. I think that is too young to be playing online games. Is there an age level?

Well I mean, I started playing online when I was about that age to be honest, and a lot of my friends did too, but I'm really not sure what you think is going to be bad from it. Sure if you play games like Call of Duty a lot you're going to get some potty-mouthed people, but if your kid is mature enough then, you know. And technically, if he plays games like Call of Duty anyway he should be mature enough to play online, the age rating is 18. You may have to help him set up some things, set up an account, set up the connection. I was pretty good at stuff like that at that age so I could do it, heh, I'm 14 now and I can do anything. I would've been in the top answerers list for Xbox in the UK on my other account if I hadn't had set it up on the American version of the site, which I only found out later -_-.

  • It depends on the games he will be playing. Number one though, don't EVER buy him a microphone (so that he can talk with others over xbox live while playing). There are people cussing and saying things you wouldn't even begin to imagine. If you log into his account, you can set it so that you can't even hear others talking, let alone converse with them. If you do this, any age level is appropriate to play online. The only other problem is the type of game. For example...if it is a shooter game (ie Call of Duty) then you should wait until he is older (Age: 13+). If it is a racing game online then I would say any age limit would be okay. I hope this helps you out!

Xbox live is for anyone you just need to make sure the game your son is playing online is suitable for him. For example your son is able to play Forza games online with others player but games like Call of duty would not be suitable for online and offline as he is underage.

xbox is not for all ages. coming from a long time player on xbox live it can get pretty graphic i mean in 30 min on call of duty and your kid will know every naughty word in english and most likely spanish also. i mean when i get on xbox live i don't think about what age the other players are because i play rated M games so my filter is off and i drop F bombs and C bombs like every 5 min.... so yeah xbox live is not for everyone but you can get it and use the parental controls and make it so he can only play E-T games... but then again if you are trying to shelter your child xbox live will blow the roof right off of his little soul...i hope this works for you best of wishes...
