DIY Tank Divider? 10 PTS?

Anyone have any ideas how to make a tank divider? I have a 30 ish gallon aquarium.

I've tried most of the store bought ones but since my tank is custom made they do not fit.

I need something that will have water flow so no sheet of plexiglass or something similar.

I am planning on dividing at least 7 gallons from my 30-ish gallon for some of my fry that are about the size of a dime. I would release them into open waters but I do not trust that their size is big enough not to get eaten.

I was planning on putting them in the bio-wheel 10g hospital but I am decontaminating a petstore fish and it might take a couple of months before the fish is clean for the main tank.

Thanks.

at the home center they often have a light diffuser material sometimes called eggcrate

it could be the basis for a DIY divider, if the fish are smaller then you'll have to cover it in nylon screen or plastic netting,

which can be found either as a window screen material, or a concrete and building material, or at some fabric/sewing stores (what they use it for I have no idea)

as far as affixing it to the tank, you have to see what you can arrange, I've used rocks, or made a brace with plexi glass, or just made it so tight it wedged in. (I made one slightly wider than the tank, and it wedged in and was held with a rock at each end on opposite sides)

which by the way, you could start with plexi and cut holes in it,

or make a plexi frame and base and then use nylon screening

or, if this is a tank you don't mind modifying, then you silicone frames to the tank. (or if it's a plexi tank, you use acrylic solvent weld)

you have to see what you have available and what building skills you possess.

note: my crystal ball says you've got more and more tanks in your future.

EDIT: yea, making things with yarn, that's probably what the mesh is for.

additional note: best thing is hard to describe, but you glue/silicone two long pieces of plastic or glass vertically to each side of the tank, and the eggcrate material slides in these channels.

I use small plastic zip ties to tie screen material to the eggcrate, but you can also "sew" it with nylon fishing line.

Buy some nylon mesh, like the ones used for aquarium fish nets, and buy plastic binders. Cut the plastic binder flaps and mesh so you can fit the mesh between the 2 pre-cut binder flaps. Then silicone glue both of the binder flaps together.

The simplest way, I believe, is to get a 1 inch thick piece of sponge and cut it into the shape of the depth of the aquarium and wedge it between the 2 areas.

You could get a piece of nylon and 4 suction cups to split the 2 areas.

At most hardware stores you can buy acrylic sheets (they are like glass). I did that to seperate my two bettas. Its cheap, easy to cut, and you can drill small holes into it for water to flow through. I got some at Ace Hardware (a 24in x 48in) for $2. Just measure the height and width of the tank and someone can help you find what your looking for. Hope this helped!

craft stores sell a plastic mesh for making things with yarn, and they come in many different sizes as far as the holes go....you can trim a sheet to fit your tank with a pair of scissors, and it won't harm the fish
