How to make meaningful changes to gun laws?
The last three shooting, in Oregon (my home state), in Connecticut, and NewYork, proved to a extent that our gun laws work. In all three cases the shooters where denied fire arms at gun shops and had to acquire them elsewhere: the shooter in Oregon stole hims, the Connecticut shooter was denied at a gun shop so he took it from his mother and shot her, the NewYork man has his Neighbors daughter buy them for him. These monsters went around the system to get guns to hurt people. what can we do to make sure this doesnt happen again?

Absolutely nothing......
Those people who really want a gun will find a gun regardless of any gun laws that are passed, improved or changed...
People will steal them and use them...
Some will steal guns and sell them to people who want them...
Criminal organizations will import them and sell them to people who want them...
The US Governments War on Drugs with all its laws against drug use and drug sales, importing drugs and interstate transport of drugs is a complete failure, Over 100 million tons of marijuana enters the US every year and makes it on to the streets..so what makes any rational person believe that they could stop illegal guns from hitting the streets?
People walk right across the border with a 50 pound bale of marijuana on there back and dont get caught so whats stopping them from walking across the border with a few AK47's and some handguns?

nicely, so i'm a procedures from conceding that Obama is going to get re-elected and more advantageous importantly, notwithstanding if he does i imagine there's a lifelike replace the Republicans or Conservatives ought to take again the Senate. So we nevertheless have a first rate danger. notwithstanding, assuming the worst, my assumption is that there must be some style of resurrection of the Brady bill with a lot an identical concentration on particular effective factors. I.e. firearms which have the flair of having severe ability magazines, firearms that can settle for suppressors, stuff like that. The language must be couched a lot an identical way as earlier - why do you want this stuff? really if there are options as there have been earlier. (undergo in concepts at the same time as the AR became banned, notwithstanding the Ruger Mini-14 wasn't?) i imagine it also will concentration on banning importation ... mainly of ammo. it will be argued that banning the ammo easily protects the monetary equipment and facilitates jobs by technique of driving the decision for to US ammo manufacturers and relatives production. that must be my wager. Thinkingblade Edit: only were given my replica of yank Handgunner on the on the spot - looks they have similar concerns if Obama receives re-elected.

I have read that Switzerland's law REQUIRES all households to own a gun.. That country's level of gun violence is very low. I'm not proposing that we enact a similar law here, but it is something to think about. Some years ago, a Georgia town with a high level of gun violence asked every homeowner to keep a gun in the house. The level of gun violence plummeted.
To quote NRA CEO Wayne La Pierre, "The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is to have a good guy with a gun." Many people don't like the NRA or its spokesperson, but can they deny the truth of what he said? NO
The best defense against a person with a gun who wants to kill you (or someone else) is to have a gun of your own.

I feel that the following suggestions could greatly improve our
firearms laws...
A person must have a national firearms ID card in order to posses
a firearm.
Obtaining the ID card requires taking an NRA safety course and
passing a thourough background check.
In addition to obtaining an ID card, all persons who now posses
a firearm must report the make, model and serial number of their
guns.
Once the gun ownership database has been established, any person
caught with a firearm which is not legally registered to them will
be arrested and the gun confiscated.
No firearm may be borrowed. Only the registered owner may be in
possesion of it, at any time.
Finally, whenever a person purchases a firearm, they must present
their ID card, and the seller must immediately contact the agency
responsible for maintaining the registration database, to report
the transfer of that firearm.
The above proceedure includes all gun sales, whether by a licensed
retailer or by a private party.
The advantages of this system are as follows:
1. Only pre-approved persons can posses firearms.
2. Every firearm is registered to a known owner throughout it's
entire existence.
3. Unapproved persons and unregistered firearms can be quickly
identified, and appropriate action taken.
4. The current rather anoying system of running background checks
on people every time they wish to buy a firearm can be eliminated,
since they have already been pre-approved. That benefit should
please law-abiding gun owners.

Almost 500 people have died by lightning in the ten years ending in 2004.
Everybody knows not to be caught out in a storm, and not to hide under a tree.
And yet....
SOME things will happen without reason and there is damn little that can be done.

Simple. Require everyone be trained on gun safty and own at least one handgun. Then mingle in that they can legally shoot anyone who poses a threat them that may mean death. Or simply drop the pointless laws and only have the ones that actualy do something.

It is not possible to guard or legislate against evil and lack of conscience. That said, the best way to stop a bad person with a gun is having them come up against a good person with a gun...and that good person being trained and proficient with their firearm....period!

would you have felt better if he had used a knife instead of a gun? then we could ban knives, if someone is intent on killing laws are not going to stop them because we have a law against murder for over 200 hundred years yet it happens everyday, you dont need a gun to kill anyone.

there is no way to ensure that it will never happen again. if you want to pass a law to prevent it, how would you do it? remember that those people broke numerous laws in the commission of their crimes. criminals and crazy people don't follow laws.
