The automatic bid will always beat yours, because it's already been made.

If I make a total bid of £10, and ebay bids the seller's minimum price (say £4) on my behalf, I will win the item for £4 if no one else bids.

But if you come along at the last minute and bid £5, you won't win, because ebay knows I have already bid £5.20, so it will increase my bid automatically.

If you bid £10.50 at the last minute, I won't win because you'll outbid me.

Make your absolute maximum bid with 3 seconds to go, or you run the risk of someone else bidding higher at the same time.

I'm addicted - it's more exciting than any fairground ride! I can feel my heart leaping around in my chest at the chance of winning even the most boring items!

Last 10 to 20 minutes. If the bid is currently at 2.05 and you put in as your highest bid being five dollars, and they put in their highest bid being ten dollars. Even though it's currently only at 2.05 their highest bod will still beat yours. Give yourself some time to be able to make a second r maybe even third bid.
