Your body cannot make or store vitamin C, so a regular supply is essential, not just in pregnancy. There is an urban myth that huge doses of Vitamin C can cause a miscarriage, but this is probably not true, although too much of any vitamin is not good for you. The best advice is that she gets her Vitamin C from natural sources, like green vegetables and oranges, and avoids supplements unless they are prescribed.

High doses can cause diarrhea and upset stomach, and can also cause newborn scurvy.

Vitamin C is perfect for keeping the immune system healthy. When pregnant, the RDA is 85 mg per day, but Vitamin C supplementation is safe up to 2,000 mg.
