Do most actresses in movies wear wigs?

A friend of mine said recently that because setting an actress' hair style for a movie is so time consuming to do on the set (and because continuity from scene-to-scene is so important) -- that over 95% of the 'hair' most actresses 'act with' in front of a movie camera are actually wigs. Is this true? And is the 95% figure accurate? I'd really like to hear from someone knowledgeable in the 'Industry' about this. Thanks!

Update:

My friend said this is For Even Current Hairstyles - not just 'historical films.' He even quoted actress Michelle Williams saying she never ever shows her real hair in a movie, she always wears a wig.

No, it isn't. Hair and make-up are done off-set before filming starts, and checked before each take. An actress might wear a wig if a very elaborate style is needed for a period film, but otherwise she will wear her own hair.

Wigs are expensive, have to be carefully fitted and are just as likely to become disarranged as natural hair, so there would be no advantage in using them.

    I agree with Indie.

Now days actors/actresses go to great lengths to look like the characters in question. Whether it be hairstyle (& facial hair) or to even to lose or gain weight. But, sometimes it's just not an option so a wig or cgi is required.

EDIT: I've heard that about Michelle Williams as well. It may very well be true. But, I still say most actors/actresses would try to avoid it if possible for more realism.

Okay, the 95% number is way too high. Some do and some do not, based upon the actress, the time period and type of scene (active shots, around water, etc). Mostly (greater than 50%), actresses show their real hair. They do have to spend a large amount of time in make-up and hair prep, but it often appears better on film, so the cost is worth it.
