I agree with Michael: through humiliation. The more you are humiliated, rejected, and the more times you get your heart broken, the less pride you will have. And pride is the same thing as insecurity.
As proof of this, I will offer a (true) story: a politician went to a big conference, where people from all kinds of schools of thought were invited from all over India. The speaker was seated on a high pedestal. The politician was very much hurt by this, because he was proud, and he asked, "Why are you seated up there? Come down and sit on the floor with the rest of us!" His pride was his vulnerability.
If you have no pride, no one can insult you. Because you believe in yourself, you won't have to convince others. And because you accept yourself, *as you are,* the whole world will accept you.

Well .......... from what I have seen ....a really strong ego doesn't have
that problem........he just keeps lying ...and gets re-elected ...........
as for myself ......when I get bruised-up....... I may soak my head for awhile...
then......forget her ......look around that proverbial corner for that other one .....
....mostly I try to understand what happened...and why......and learn to play
my cards better...........................
