I texted someo in a different country. Now it won't let me text at all?

I was texting my friend and he lives I'm Canada and I live in America well I was texting him for like 2weeks and then yesterday I got no texts from anyone and I couldn't text anybody. I could call though. My step mom called AT&T and they said it was because I can't text out of the country. What's going to happen? Will I be able to text again? What do I have to do?

    you do know it costs your step mom .25 per text to Canada right??? forsee a huge bill.... and also believe someone in the house called ATT and put a international block on your line to prevent a huge huge bill like the one they'll get in a couple of weeks
