why can't christians unite and put aside their petty differences?

as long as we believe in Jesus, that should be good enough. No need to bash other sects, just have a mutual respect for each and unite as one. There is a growing attack on Christianity in this nation and if we don't pull together, we'll lose before we know it

Update:

Vanity- You can't be a CHRISTian if you don't believe in CHRIST. Period

Update 2:

SupaStar- You really are a braindead moron, aren't you?

Update 3:

SupaStar- The WBC is a joke organization. I think that they are being funded by some rich liberals to make christians look bad, or they are working with the FBI. Something is not right about them, in their interviews, they seem to be laughing, or not very serious. Something is very fishy about them

Update 4:

Auntie Anne Arkey- Too late. Christian sects don't war with each other anymore. You're 300 years too late. We just need to unite against people like YOU

Update 5:

SupaStar- You are one of my favorite braindead liberals. You have the nerve to call me a chickenhawk, proving your foolishness. I was against the illegal war in Iraq and I voted for Ron Paul. You don't know anything about my personal life, but understand that I do love America, and I love the right to bear arms.

Update 6:

Auntie Anne Arkey- But where are the WARS? There are no more WARS. Go back to the 16th and 17th centuries if you want to live out your wet dreams

    Ah, the poor, persecuted, non-patriotic Christian.

    Boo Hoo.

    =====================

    "You can't be a CHRISTian if you don't believe in CHRIST."

    Some Christians say Christ is God, others do not. This is NOT a trivial matter.

    But, I assume then, that you fully support the Westboro Baptist Church?

    =====================

    I am only a brain-dead moron (to you) because I expose your ignorance.

    Tell us again which branch of the US Military you served in again, oh Mr "I am so patriotic"?

    =====================

    "The WBC is a joke organization..."

    WAIT! I thought the point of your question was:

    "why can't christians unite and put aside their petty differences?"

    And you call ME "a brain-dead moron"?

    ======================

    Shall I also add to my list that I am a gun owner? And that I have a ribbon for marksmanship?

    You claim "I do not know you", then, turn around and say "you know ME"?

    There must be some anti-hypocrisy drug in the beer you drink.

    Actually, we have a biblical verse that the Lord was fully aware of during His time on Earth - the latter would eventually become true in today's time:

    Every kingdom divided against itself will be laid waste, and no town or house divided against itself will stand. Matthew 12:25.

    Christianity is a kingdom that is broken into a variety of facets, we need to have more of a unity.

    Otherwise, we become a victim of Matthew 12:25 that causes great hardship and grief.

    Although, the Lord stated He will be with His church until the end of time the difficulty that will be noted until the end will be a struggle.

    Because the "differences" are hardly petty, and each sect thinks theirs is right and wants theirs to be the dominant one.

    Divide and conquer, and we atheists don't have to do anything but sit back and watch Christianity destroy itself.

    Added: Oh really? You haven't seen the abuse Roman Catholics get vilified about their Saints, or Mary and how they're called not real Christians? You haven't noticed the different take of hell and heaven? You haven't seen the "Good Works" heaven promoters get reamed by the "Repented and Saved" group? The more time goes on, the more faction groups spring up, which only thins your ranks.

    Added 2: Okay, Northern Ireland. Warring between the Protestant and RC Irish within their own country.

    Their differences are not considered "petty" by the different sects. And I think the problem is less to do with Christians not seeing eye to eye and more to do with having this anti-atheism sentiment. Online there is a lot of bashing from both sides, but in real life atheists for the most part keep pretty quiet about their opinions.

    The meaning of the many-ways-told Christ-like story of dozens of religious systems make us wonder and try to exposit just what it is that makes ours humbling in its majesty, and to find a universal way to enlighten those who challenge the story as bitter-woebegone that's old-hat. Human nature and the beauty of God's endowment of our spiritual capacities are all the proof we need to agree upon Jesus as a truly unique man of God, and in his resurrection, at least the right arm of God.

    I feel religion needs to not push "required belief". If there is no hard sell, in time, the suggestion of an implied realism rings true to our God-given sensibilities and relates with great awestrikingness to our every day lives .Young people truly don't want to find their elders are playing Santa Claus with the idea of God, so let's allow human spirituality to take its course and I guarantee you the brightest among us, and the least ,will come to their local parish if a light is on. The trust that God is significant in our living is far greater a value than the complex 'how' can it be made precise by the exigesical revelating toward a showing of inclination for existential proof( or whatever). Our Christianity is already a great summation of international efforts and objective worldly scrutiny of spirits, ghosts, holly, and cross-eyed Marriers. Let the miraculous nature of a common folk tradition pop the drop kick of Spike and his atheist bulldog.

    They can't because those petty differences aren't so petty to them. They honestly believe that those petty differences could cost them their souls. It becomes so important and all-consuming that they forgett the two most basic tenets of their religion:

    1) God forgives every sin. So being mistaken in a minor difference in theology isn't going to damn you to Hell. God fogives murderers and rapists if they ask and are honestly repentant; he'll forgive the difference between (say) Catholic and Baptist easily enough.

    2) Love thy neighbor as you love thy God. 'nuff said.

    Because there are divisions that God made amoung us already from the beginning. I'm sure you are familiar with the verse that says

    They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law."

    Luke 12:53

    "Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death."

    Matt 10;21

    Historically, this has already happened.
