I love how people answer you with EXACTLY the sites you mentioned you weren't interested in, eh?

I ended up selling my laptop this past fall; I got a new one for my birthday, and since I had a desk top already too, I figured it would behoove me to sell the older laptop, since i was starting fall semester and cripes, the textbooks are almost as much as the class!

I actually took it to a few places near me to be appraised, but they wanted to WAY undersell me- it worked perfectly, was only 2 years old, and they were saying it was just good for parts. Pish.

When I looked online, I found a couple places: two wanted me to ship the laptop to them, at my cost, and said when they inspected it they would email me with an offer, and then I could take it or have it sent back at their cost.

Another place said they would pay for my shipping, but they had to snail mail the shipping label for some reason, which would have taken another week or two at least. They gave me an "estimated" offer, which was not guaranteed, and contingent on what my laptop looked like when they got it. This made me feel like they'd get it and be like, "oh, she already sent it, she'll just take what we give her so she doesn't have to do it all over again with someone else".

Now I'm sure some Creepy McCreeperton out there tried to sell his and said his Laptop was in mint condition, and when they got it, it was all beat up, and the Creepy guy said "oh, it must have been from the shipping"- so i understand the need to check it- but they just didn't seem on the up and up.

Ultimately, I ended up using this place my brother sold his to: they actually gave me an estimate, let me print up the PRE-PAID shipping label myself, and I sent it off the same day. They actually offered more than the one who seemed dodgy anyways, (actually, they were the highest offer I got)- and when they got it, they stayed true to that amount. No trying to barter me down.

They were also super-nice. I got paid really fast too- I got paid via Paypal- i like Paypal, i think it's faster than anything else. But I just went to the website to get the link for you, and it says they also can pay by check in the mail, so it's up to you. They were fast about paying me, so I'm sure they would send the check pretty fast too.

What was REALLY weird was, when I went back to the one who wanted me to ship it to them, to double check the appraisal amount, it said "account suspended" and had this generic search page. So yeah, WAY happy I went with the place my brother used. I think a lot of these sites are fly by night- I mean really, how do you know they're legit if you don't know anyone whose used them? They could keep your laptop and never pay you and shut down the site. So I would HIGHLY recommend only using a place you've gotten good info about, just to play it safe. And this place guarantees the highest rate, so you'll get paid the most through them.

Hope this helped :) If you have any other questions about them, you can email me, and i'll try to answer them. Good luck!

Generally, you'll get more money through eBay or Craig's list, but I believe both of the sites you've listed are safe. They purchase outright, so you work through their calculators and they'll pay you that amount for your laptop. BUT if they get it and find the condition or features to be different from those you provided, they'll reduce the amount. Consider taking your computer to a local shop too. Sometimes they'll buy them outright and that saves you the hassle of packing and shipping. I've sold several items using eBay. I don't know what your objections are, but you can sell 'as is.' You can require payment through PayPal or otherwise set the terms of your payment. You can even use a broker to take care of the exchange of money and goods for you. There are also several other auction sites on the Internet. You'd need to read the terms for each one to see if it's worth it you to use them. Google or Dogpile "online auctions" for links.

Check out the website I posted in the sources. It should really help you in figuring out how much you can get for your laptop. and it does have free shipping.
