What should I buy first?
I'm going to be starting my freshman year of college this coming fall and I need to start saving up for a car. I've decided that I want both a 2000 Honda Civic and a 1997 Ford Ranger 4x4, but I'm having a hard time deciding which I should start saving up for first. I'm hoping to one day have both of them and fix up and customize one while using the other (the Civic while using the Ranger and vice versa) if and when I have some extra cash. Which should I buy first? Any tips and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Figure out which one you plan to mod and put it on hold. Don't do this "one day fix one of them up" stuff right now. Buy the 2nd vehicle when you're actually ready to fix it up and you actually have the money to do so sitting in a bank account somewhere.
The Civic is a better vehicle to drive for college right now, regardless what you plan on modding in the future.
You need a good job to own a car & a project car at the same time (especially if the project car is going to receive power upgrades), and its hard to get a good job without getting a college degree first..............

Get the civic, Honda's are known for reliability and their quality. Also it's newer than the Ranger.
I would stay away from a 90's era Ford. During this time American car makers were cutting a lot of corners and therefore quality and reliability went straight into the toilet. I would wait until you can afford a more modern Ranger. Rangers improved significantly after 2007.

Start saving first! Once you have the money it's easy to decide :) Of course the Civic is a better first car and spending less on gas will help you to save for your truck. The Ranger will cost you around $3,500 a year on gas alone, which is roughly price for your Civic right there.

Get the civic it has better gas mileage and it would cost a lot more if you got the ranger.
