How do I secure a back pack to my passenger seat on a '09 FLHT Harley?

I am taking a trip to Colorado Springs CO. in late spring to hike Barr trail (Pikes Peak) The back pack I will be taking with me sits almost 20" higher than my passenger back rest and this is my climbing pack so I don't want to get it all bent up and stuff. Is there a product out there that will allow me to take off the passenger backrest pad and mount a sissybar extension to where the pad mounts to support my back pack? I have the quick connect system So I can't just go and buy any tall sissy bar. I know this is kind of an obscure request but somebody must have came up with something for this before.

Not to discourage you, but having climbed many 14r's in Colorado, I suggest you take a car. Your not going to be in any shape to ride when you get done with the hike. If you insist on taking the bike I would put the pack on my back as its really the only safe place for it on your bike.

This may not be a perfect answer. But Since you have the quick release already, there is a

24 or 30 inch tall backrest that I used to hold a taller pack.

The other option is the shelf/rack that can be installed behind the backrest over the fender.

Using the rack gives support and you strap down on to that.

There are side bags that offer support but I do not think they will work for you.

Wearing the pack is an option if yo are riding solo.

Last probably strapping it flat across passenger seat and fender.

Maybe somebody out here has seen something more specific.

    Good Luck !

    Remove the backrest.

Go to a hardware store or a place that sells sheet metal and buy a sheet (1/8" thick should do).

Drill holes to line up with the ones from removing backrest.

Cut (or have cut) to size, bolt on!

Alternative = Make a cardboard pattern of what you need (hole location, size, shape) and take it to a metal fabrication shop and have them hack one out for you.

    Bolt on!

Also you can add holes or clips to attach bungee cords or straps.

You are going to park a harley at a popular trail-head in Colorado for how many days? So how do you plan to get home after your climb?
