Is ADD and ADHD a real diesase or do kids and adults just fake it to get away with getting in trouble?
No offence to anyone that "has" it. But I never understood it. Kids in my school throw stuff in class and talk back to the teacher and when the teacher gets mad they say "sorry my ADHD is acting up I need to go to the nurse." Then they're out of class for about a hour and come back sleepy. I watched a documentary on it and the doctors all said there's no way to test if you have it but if you show some certain symptoms and yep you have it. Even some kids at my school fake it and they sell the drugs they get from it at my school.
What's your opinion is it real or not?

Yes ADD and ADHD are real conditions. Not really a disease though. I know I have ADHD and I was diagnosed as a child. I for a while as a adult thought I didn't have it anymore but, I still show symptoms of it! Some people in school might or might not have ADD Or ADHD but, if people have heard of the condition it is easy for them to lie and say they have it without knowing if they have it or not or they know they don't have it. Also the things you mentioned about throwing stuff and acting up might actually be something else and not ADHD Or ADD. Throwing stuff sounds more like EBD. Emotional Behavioral Disorder. Also ODD which is Oppositional Defiancy disorder.
When I was diagnosed with ADHD at a early age I never told peopple my ADHD was acting up. I got prescribed medication and most likely children who have been diagnosed with ADD or ADHD will be on medication and they will probably be taking medication in the morning before school. Sometimes they might have to take it at school.

As a pediatric nurse for over twenty-nine years I can attest to the fact that this is a real disorder.
I also have an eleven year old grandson that was just diagnosed with this disorder last Friday.
I've know it for years cause he was at first mis-diagnosed with developmental delay which is really
far fetched cause his reading and math scores are over the scale. He simply can never and I do mean
NEVER stay still do matter what he's doing and I mean even sleeping. he is constantly fidgeting, or
jumping or yelling out answers in class, or fails to give attention to details, or loses things necessary for
tasks,or activities like pencils or books, is on the go often acts like he's driven by a motor and he
talks excessively. These are just a few behaviors doctors, parents, and teachers use when determining whether or not a child has ADD. There are many more factors used when a child is being evaluated and
no matter how smart a child may be eventually it will be found out if he is faking or not!

Of course they are real conditions. Your ability to concentrate and inhibit your behavior comes from the brain, that part of the brain can malfunction just as much as any other part can.
People who can't have it can't understand it because our brains work so efficiently that we aren't even aware of all the complex things that they are doing so we take for granted. You don't even know your brain is doing them unless is doesn't do them. So someone without ADHD can't understand how it feels not to be able to inhibit your own behavior.
People who have ADHD don't get diagnosed to use it as an excuse, as the opposite is really true. People with ADHD need stricter discipline, tighter structure and less leeway than people without or their behavior can become out of hand.
There are ways to test for ADHD, in my country ADHD is tested for using a brain scan. This is a very effective tool but the technology is very expensive. If it were to be used in a huge country like the USA then the waiting lists would take years.

It is a real condition that is far more prevalent among boys however it is not a disease. It is perfectly natural for a boy not to want to sit still at a desk for hours on end. Due to liability issues, elementary schools have eliminated playgrounds with the type of play equipment active boys used to have access to during recess, several times a day. This enabled such boys to be less active in class. Those who still had trouble sitting still knew there were real and immediate consequences if they acted up during class. By the time such boys were in high school, most were conditioned to what was expected in terms of classroom behavior. Psychiatrists and the pharmaceutical industry, who have a vested financial interest worth billions of dollars, have been on a campaign to make everyone believe boys being active is a "condition" that requires school children to be drugged when what is really needed is an outlet for their activity and consequences for refusing to conform to expected standards of conduct in the class room setting.

Trust me when I say that it is a very real thing. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there, however that do fake it just to get the drugs.
If you spent one day at my house, you would really see. My brother has both ADD and ADHD. My parents don't let him use it as an excuse to act up or any of that, and if he gets in trouble in class he gets in trouble at home. The difference when he is on his medication and when he isn't is like night and day. It's not something you can fake every day of your life

Some people fake it, but it is a real mental disorder. I have friends and family with it, and they can't pay attention or sit or concentrate unless they're on their medication. It's obvious, but some people milk it to get out of trouble.
