Dinner Party dress code: sports attire. What to wear?

If you want to go smart(ish) you could wear a pair of plimsolls, a pair of chino shorts and a cotton t-shirt with a sweater wrapped around your neck (link to an image enclosed at the bottom so you see what I mean!) - that's a sort of typical posh type of sports clothing image, a cliche image used in movies a lot.

If it's sports attire, then you should probably stick to the dress code, ask what other people are wearing to get ideas. If you do decide to wear a dress, then make it fun by sporting it up a little - wear your dress with sneakers/trainers, wear a baseball cap, a baseball mitt, etc, etc

Be careful... I would check with one of the organizers what "sports attire" means. It probably doesn't mean the kind of clothing you would wear to play sports.

I see that there is a Singapore flag on your question, so "sports attire" may mean something different there, but where I come from, it basically means "business casual." Men should wear something like this:

So the jacket doesn't need to match the trousers and it can be made out of a more casual fabric. In some places, jeans can be worn.

Women should wear not wear a cocktail dress or anything so formal. No evening wear. They also should probably not wear anything as casual as jeans. A skirt or casual dress would probably work, as would nice trousers.

I would not wear shorts. A sports shirt (if you mean a polo) would probably be OK.

sports attire means u may wear shorts and jeans IF U WANT TO. if u do not want to u may wear a dress, but of course it shouldn't be floor length evening gown - u will look stupid. but short dress - why not?

Wear a shell suit.

Black wetsuit with yellow chevron stripes down the arms and legs, football cleats, catcher's mask, hockey pads, black velvet riding hat, one bowling glove. Don't forget your riding crop and war paint.
