How could any Christian accept both the bible and evolution?

Makes no sense. The stories contradict each other, and God has never lied to me before and has shown his glory to me, so I'm going to have to say that evolution is false, regardless of how clever it may seem

Update:

scooterpoop- They are incompatible. Compare the Adam/Eve story to how evolutionists say life was formed

@Scooterpoop: It is not. In Genesis it says "God formed the man from the dust and created the woman from the man's rib". Does it say "God formed man through the process of evolution"? No. So a true Christian would not accept evolution, most of them don't.

That is called Theistic Evolution, For those who hold to the Bible as the Word of God, theistic evolution should not be a viable option. The Bible says, "Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us..." (Psalm 100:3). The Scriptures state that God created. God said, "Let there be..." and there was. The Scriptures speak of the creative word of God. When God speaks, it occurs. He said "Let there be" and it was so. It does not say, "Let there be a slow development through an evolutionary process."

God said in Genesis 1:26, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." The Hebrew word for "make" in this verse, and in verse 25 where God makes the beasts, is "asah." It means to do, work, make, produce. This is not simply the limited Hebrew understanding of evolutionary principles.

The land animals were made differently than man. The animals were made from the ground, but man was made directly by God: "the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being" (Gen. 2:7). Evolution states that man evolved from life forms that developed in the ocean. Here, God made man from the dust of the ground--not the water of the ocean.

If evolution is true and the Bible is true, then how is the formation of Eve explained? She was created out of one of Adam's ribs (Gen. 2:22). There is no way to explain this if theistic evolution is true; that is, unless you want to say that Eve wasn't made from Adam's side. Then, if you do that, you are doubting the very Word of God.

Also, Jesus said in Mark 10:6, "But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.'" The beginning was not evolutionary slime; in the beginning of creation there was Adam and Eve.

Though this information is brief and far from complete, it should be obvious that theistic evolution and the Scriptures cannot be harmonized.

What is tragic is that many Christians (and I use that word Christian loosely) are succumbing to worldly pressure to adjust their theology to “Make it Fit”

For it is Written “ 2 Timothy 4:3-4 (NKJV) For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, [because] they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn [their] ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.

These Christians do not know just HOW That effects Their theology

How a Christian views Creation has a profound effect on that.

How do beliefs about creation impact the rest of theology?

Catholic belief is that the stories of the old testament are meant to teach us lessons, not to be a word for word history book. For example, the creation story is meant to say that God is the all powerful being who created the universe, not that the universe was created in six literal days and all life spontaneously appeared on earth. You see, that is how things can remain compatible. There is scientific evidence to support theories such as evolution and the big bang theory. The main reason for this is because we know that we have to adapt and change. The sun does not go around the Earth, as many used to believe. We learn from the mistakes of forefathers who tried to fight scientific progress, and instead embrace it.

Even parts of evolution such as evolving from primates (I hate it when people say monkeys, that is the wrong term entirely) still fit. Think about it. Look at the great apes around us. By physical properties, many behavioral properties, and biological properties such as DNA, we are almost the same. This is where that famous line, "Created in his own image" comes into play. What we have that the animals do not, is sentience. The primordial spark of sentience that is what it truly means to be made in God's image.

You can believe some sky daddy popped Adam and Eve on the planet, along with a talking snake, a 600 year old man with a boat load of animals....(Just how did he swim to Australia, gather up all those wild critters, then on the way back, herd them, along with elephants, lions, etc, into a little boat?????? Beyond anything logical.)

    Or,

You can accept the obvious... that with the discovery of DNA in the 1950's, absolute proof was provided that every single living thing on this planet is related. Creationism was old hat after DNA. People still try to resurrect it, but it never stands up to logic or reason.

Evolution, is as true, as gravity is true. That YOU have no understanding of it (yet) or don't have the intelligence ( and it takes very little) to see the connections isn't our problem.

Wish to REALLY know what it says? Read, "The Greatest Show on Earth" by R. Dawkins. Best seller in Science list for over two years. Now in paperback... cheap from Amazon, or freeeeeeeeeeeeeeee at your public library.

Fairy tales, or science for you. Which is it?

Some Christians accept some parts of the Bible as metaphors in order to avoid contradictions with science or other passages in the Bible. Metaphors are pretty much unavoidable for them because Revelation 22:18-19 doesn't allow them to edit the Bible.

Christianity and Islam were made by Satan.

All christians and muslims will burn in hell and their mothers and sisters will be violated in front of them

    ...

What? shocked? don't you say the same thing about us all the time?

    Creationists are either

    1) Liars and deceivers; the type who fake fossils and try to doctor evidence to fight science

    2) pathological retards who have not been to school and their source of information about almost everything is what the first group tell them

There is no point talking to them - the solution is to teach kids enough science so that they will be vaccinated against the brainwashing they receive at home and at church.

    Long live science and humanity

Well, some people say God made man as monkeys, then evolved.

truth is God made man in his own form. At first it seems random that this would be in the bible, But since the theory of evolution it now makes sense why it's put in there.

The rule out the theory that man made monkeys which evolved.

i accept the bible but understand that all the many different human races (black / yellow / red / white / brown ) had 1 mother eve and father adam.

yet adam and eve were white just like Messiah is and jews that have not married outside their race - 1 corinthians 15:45 / john 1:11

obviously something is built into human and animal reproduction to produce variety - all humans are humans whether pygmies or Zulu / all dogs are dogs whether wolf or chihuahua / cats lions or tabby / cattle etc.

    they are totally incompatible

believe God or man - but not both

Num 23:19 God [is] not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do [it]? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

1Ti 6:20 ¶ O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane [and] vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:

1Ti 6:21 Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace [be] with thee. Amen.

I agree with you, but many people, who claim to be Christian, also claim to accept the theory of evolution. I think they are in denial. A lot more people are atheist than are willing to admit to themselves or to anyone else. Maybe a third of all Christians.
