getting a job as a sexologist?

so im young, only 15, but i am always interested in thinking about my future and career. my friend jokingly suggested sexology to me when she realized how much im interested in the topic. I look up facts about it all the time, and its actually my favorite hobby when im online to research different types of sex and little facts about it. Yes you can consider it immature, go ahead, but i actually find it really interesting and id like to know more about it.

Anyway, i dont want to be in psych or therapy with it, im only interested in research. here is my question: are there jobs in research in sexology? will the economy affect the amount of jobs available? how many years of education would i need (i am COMPLETELY fine with many years in college, id like to go for a masters/ doctorate), what will the pay be like? ( assuming i get a high degree)

thanks:)

Sure, you could potentially get a job researching different aspects of sex. However, you need to understand that it's not going to be just looking stuff up and learning about it. You will be expected to design studies and publish. In research, it's Publish or Perish.

The economy may or may not affect jobs in the next 15 years. Research is not an easy field to get into to begin with and with the neo-con war on science AND war on sex, it could present even more of a challenge for you if we continue down this Victorian path.

Your only 15, wait till you get to college and start thinking about it. In this recession going to college and earning a degree will not earn you a job. You have to research on jobs that are in demand. I do not know much about the demand of a sexologist today. The economy can change by the time your in college so do your research then. Right now you don't have to worry about because your interests may change by the time your graduate high school.

I would say Creative Consultant, or Visual Marketing Consultant, or simply something along the lines of Media/Graphic Designer. I know people nowadays will get a major in Marketing/Advertising, or Business, and take necessary classes to familiarize themselves with Photoshop, etc, in order to go into Website Development, or Advertising. It's all pretty much on computers now, so it takes knowledge of technology as well as art. It's a killer combo though.

I know a physician with a PhD in that specialty. He was (he's retired now) more or less working as a physician and he would be a sex therapist on a part-time basis. He told me that it was not a glamorous or anything at all to hear about couples who were having "problems". He cut his hours down and only practice as a physician before he retired.

I remembered one thing that he said about pay – it didn't pay that well. Sometimes insurance wouldn't cover it and the patient had to pay cash, and many of them simply couldn't afford what he wanted to charge.
