Fired from my job, any advice?

Have you been violating HIPPA?  In Canada it’s called PHIA and i know exactly how far i can go without breaking any laws.  Even if a nurse did violate it once if it waa the first time it would probably be a warning, not fired.  If you’ve gone and done it multiple times with numerous complaints filed against you...i would fire you also.  If you feel like you were unfairly treated you can always ask why.  Maybe you can find someone else who violated HIPPA and is still working.  It’s a long shot but it could work

Since you have been working for 5 years and don't know that it's HIPAA (2 As not 2 Ps), healthcare might not be the best place for you.  You aren't a details kind of guy. 

Recognize that it could get a lot worse before it gets any better for you. Yes, as someone else pointed out, you could be sued. And even if you weren’t planning to work at the hospital after getting your degree, the fact that it ended like this could haunt you for a long time for future employment. You worked there for five years, so it’s not like you can leave that experience off your resume, and you will have to explain what happened and why you left/were fired to potential future employers. And gross misconduct like a HIPAA violation is not going to go over well (and will disqualify you for unemployment too). Start thinking about back up plans, plan B,C,D, etc. because you may have to do something very different than what you expected for a while.

Learn to keep you BIG mouth shut.  Job-wise, you will need more than good luck.  The hospital might very well be sued and you could be too.  I hope you have a boatload of savings.  And learn what the heck it is, because you are looking awfully ignorant.

Get on your computer and file for Unemployment NOW.   Don’t get discouraged if you get turned down at first, that is very common.  Next step: APPEAL.   Follow the instructions in the papers.   Get a file and keep copies of EVERYTHING.   Go to your local Public Library, and ask the Librarians if they have any books about filing Unemployment that you could borrow.  Read everything.    Appeal until you get approved.   

Move it!   You don’t have time to feel sorry for yourself.  

ALSO, look for another job.
