Best fabric to make a peaked/officer's cap?

I'm planning to use this tutorial (http://brassgoggles.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,25... to make a peaked cap, like the ones police officers wear, but it doesn't specify a fabric to use. I want to make one cap in black and one in white, but they don't have to be in the exact same fabric, so long as the hat is stable and the material looks good. Thanks!

I'd use a wool twill or gabardine or serge -- all easy to work with, resilient, and can be pressed.
