Buddhists: Is there an etymological connection between the terms tathata and tathagata?

tathata translates as "suchness" and tathagata translates as "One who has thus gone"

Update:

Yes John...I tend to agree with that..Budhaghosa actually listed 8 possible meanings of tathagata, some of which appeared to utilize tathata as part of the foundation.

Update 2:

giving rise to a newer interpretation of "one who has thus gone on to suchness ( the real nature of reality/sunyata)

I am one of those who believes the true meaning of Tathagata is lost because it is not a true Indo Aryan word but a native Indian word rendered in Pali/Sanskrit. It just sounds like thus come one but it is something different and we may have lost it, it works as thus come one however, even if that is not the original meaning.
