Why does soft texture feel warm?

I was just wondering.

Since like a really soft blanket, or sweater/jacket, can feel really warm.

And one of my friends said that her jacket is really soft and it warm, while mine was really thin and cold. Could it be the layers that store in the cold keeping it from reaching our skin?

Like idk why but i like wearing a jacket in summer, not a thick one, but like a pretty thin one to keep the sun off my skin and stuff.

The many soft fibers trap heat from your body, making it warmer than a thin nylon shell jacket. The shell jacket is often cold and clammy because cold air on one side of the jacket cools the material, then conducts the cold to your skin on the inside of the jacket. Some thin jackets are improved by a layer of silver mylar plastic, which reflects body heat well. Still, the soft material works better because it is often made of more breathable material, so sweat can evaporate and keep you warmer.

For exercising outdoors, wool sweaters are good (layered as needed) as they insulate well whether wet or dry, trap heat, and are breathable so sweat can escape. New synthetic materials are nearly as good as wool, and wash better than wool. The new fabrics are engineered to be breathable and warm just like wool. Down feather jackets trap heat very well, but don't insulate when wet, and don't wash well either.
