What makes the Bible unique?

I will get us started....

PROPHECY - A perfect record....

Joshua 24:14“Now, look! I am going today in the way of all the earth, and YOU well know with all YOUR hearts and with all YOUR souls that not one word out of all the good words that Jehovah YOUR God has spoken to YOU has failed. They have all come true for YOU. Not one word of them has failed.

As was said to the nation of Israel many moons ago before crossing the Jordan to enter the promised land, the nation of Israel knew Jehovah and all that he said proves to be. Today it is the same for those who pay attention to Gods inspired word (2Timothy3:16) We too know that all Jehovah God has spoken proves to be, and prophecy is one way we know for a certainty that what is soon to come shall be done, and in our time, because the Bible is not mans word but Gods, we know it to be truthful.

"Bible prophecies are . . . so numerous as to make accidental fulfillment almost infinitely improbable.”—A LAWYER EXAMINES THE BIBLE, BY IRWIN H. LINTON

HOW IS THE BIBLE DIFFERENT? Ancient oracles were notoriously ambiguous and unreliable, and modern horoscopes are no better. Futurology is based on current trends and rarely even attempts to predict specific events centuries in advance. In contrast, Bible prophecies are detailed and always come true, even if they tell “from long ago the things that have not been done.”—Isaiah 46:10.

AN EXAMPLE: In the sixth century B.C.E., the prophet Daniel saw a vision that foretold the rapid defeat of Medo-Persia by Greece. It also foretold that as soon as the victorious king of Greece “became mighty,” his kingship would be “broken.” Who would replace him? Daniel wrote: “There are four kingdoms from his nation that will stand up, but not with his power.”—Daniel 8:5-8, 20-22.

WHAT HISTORIANS SAY: Over 200 years after Daniel’s time, Alexander the Great became king of Greece. Within ten years, Alexander defeated the Medo-Persian Empire and extended Grecian rule as far as the Indus River (in modern-day Pakistan). But he died suddenly at the age of 32. Finally, a battle near Ipsus in Asia Minor effectively dissolved his empire. The four victors of that battle eventually divided the Grecian Empire among themselves. However, none of them attained Alexander’s degree of power.

WHAT DO YOU THINK? Can any other book claim such a record of fulfilled prophecy? Or is the Bible unique?

    Friend,

Yes the OT and the NT are the Creators words as far as they are interpreted correctly, and both speak of the Messiah ,or Jesus Christ as the first witness, but another book was prophesied to come forth out of the earth, [ISAIAH 29; V 4] as a second witness of Jesus Christ, even the Book of Mormon ,as found in the book of Ezekiel 37; v 15 -20, if you anagram the 5 main words of these verses [ STICK,JOSEPH ,ISRAEL, JUDAH ,AND EPHRAIM, and join them all together you will be amazed as to what it reads.

Then read v 11-13 in chapter 29, of Ezekiel and compare this with what is written in the History of the church of Jesus Christ of L D S ,when some of the ancient American writings that Joseph Smith interpreted and were shown to a professor Anthos of New York, again you will be amazed , 2,800 years BC, wow ! Heavenly Father knows what he is doing in order to bring us all unto Christ.

Pray and ask for conformation , I did ,"and by the power of the Holy Ghost, you will know the truth of all things" Moroni 10 ; v .3-5.

    God bless.

I think that each religion has some followers who make ridiculous claims about their particular holy book. The specifics differ but the gist is always the same: "My holy book is the only one that is flawless and clearly handed to us by a superbeing."

Then they cherry pick the book for supposedly fulfilled prophecies, every single one of which they noticed AFTER the event took place, not before. They never said, for example, "My book predicts that in 10 years X will happen." Instead something will happen and they'll think, "Hey, that sounds a lot like that really vague prediction in chapter 3. Nice!"

You don't get to call them fulfilled prophesies by fitting the prophesies to the facts after they've happened. This is what the Nostradamus groupies do all the time.

Speak to some Muslims. They think their book is unique and yours is, you know, ok, but nothing like theirs. To an unbiased outside observer they're both obvious nonsense.

KJV. Isaiah 43 v 10-13 is what makes' it above others'. It is not a book of prophecy (man not Gods' meaning) but Gods' diary of the many times' God has been born on earth and came back many times' after Jesus. Both with biblical proof.

  • I would like to answer from another angle.

    ARCHAEOLOGY

Biblical archaeology is the study of the peoples and events of the Bible through the intriguing record buried in the earth. The archaeologist digs up and analyzes rock, ruined walls and buildings, and shattered cities as well as uncovers pottery, clay tablets, written inscriptions, tombs, and other ancient remains, or artifacts, from which he gleans information. Such studies often improve understanding of the circumstances under which the Bible was written and under which ancient men of faith lived, as well as the languages they, and the peoples around them, employed. They have expanded our knowledge of all the regions touched by the Bible: Palestine, Egypt, Persia, Assyria, Babylonia, Asia Minor, Greece, and Rome.

Biblical archaeology is relatively a new science. Only in 1822 did decipherment of the Rosetta Stone unlock Egyptian hieroglyphics. Assyrian cuneiform was decoded more than 20 years later. Systematic excavations were begun in Assyria in 1843 and in Egypt in 1850.

I think the Bible is unique as well and love it when the facts are presented as you had done....I know they are there...but don't have time to look it all up....I can remember...but not detail oriented...this is nice work and I only hope that those who question or doubt sincerely look all of this up....they won't be disappointed....thanks.

Sprinkle a few historical facts there... Put some lies here... Frost it... Add magical beings and fear for control. VOILA! You got yourself a Bible.
