IN a survey, one out of ten people named blue as their favorite color. Three out of five named red. If 1,100 people were asked, how many chose red?
3/5 x 1100 = 660 people <==ANSWER for choosing red
What about choosing red or blue?
3/5 x 1100 + 1/10 x 1100 = 660 + 110 = 770 <==ANSWER for choosing red or blue
How many choose some other color?
1100 - 770 = 330 <==ANSWER for some other color (not red or blue)
