    That would be THYROID.

You need testing for thyroid ANTIBODIES as well as TSH. TSH ‘norm’ should be .3 – 3 (w/ most feeling best at < 2, like maybe ONE) but, for diagnosis, may not mean much if ANTIBODIES are present which is indicative of Hashimoto’s Autoimmune Thyroiditis (cycles between HYPER & HYPO at start)…it is the main cause of eventual HypOthyroidism but worse (...OR Graves Disease – HypERthyroid from beginning [different antibodies]).

You will have to INSIST they test for the antibodies. [anti-TPO and TgAb for Hashi’s] They can code so that ins will pay.

WARNING: Doctors seem not to want to find/treat thyroid disease. You may have to go to more than one doctor before you get the right tests, interpretation, and treatment. Best wishes.

ALWAYS GET COPIES OF YOUR LABS.

The thyroid is a gland in the front your throat that pumps out hormones. Mostly these hormones have to do with your metabolism... you need to have the right balance of them to be healthy and have good energy levels.

An enlarged thyroid can mean anything from an iodine deficiency (unlikely in the US), to Graves or Hashimoto's disease (treatable), to thyroid nodules... which, while they can be cancerous, usually are not. You should follow up with your doc and do what they say but there's no need to panic yet.

It means your thyroid is working harder to make thyroid hormone. In about half of cases of enlarged thyroid (which is called goiter), the person has no abnormality in thyroid hormone levels. Most of the other half is hypothyroid and has low thyroid hormone levels. That is easily treatable.

Occasionally it is caused by other thyroid problems, but hypothyroidism (low thyroid hormone levels) affects 5% of women. That's a lot of women, and it's the most likely cause, and it's very fixable. So don't worry about it.

If its anything bad your doctor will tell. Do you have a follow up appointment? Maybe you have hyperthyroidism a condition that causes over producing of certain hormones. If i would you I would call your doctor back and talk to them about it. It could be a bad thing, but it might not be.
