Can you id this bird for me?

Taken at Gympie, Queensland, Australia, on December the 27th, the trees were full of these nesting birds with their young...

No, sorry, Reg, I pass. In Canada we don't have this kind of bird. That looks lovely, the one where there are 2 birds in the picture....they seem so royal those birds, but on the second photo, which is also an expert photo, those eyes look cold , I would beware of that one, it didn't get it's breakfast and is grumpy....maybe that's me and somehow I took the form of a bird and during my sleeping hours, which are waking hours in Australia I got to Queensland and I was not happy with the choice of food I found at Gympie..

Wonderful photos as always, Reg,....Happy New year to you and yours and to the lady of flat 2? was it...LOL xxx

Looks like an egret. We have 'em in Maui and they hang with the cows on the ranch. Then every evening starting around 17:00 or so, they fly back along the coastline in flocks about 500 feet up..and go about 30 miles where they roost in low hau trees around Honomanu Bay...

I would go for cattle egret too.

Breeding plumage. Though the Wiki page map doesn't show them breeding in Oz, things are changing.

The orange colouring is beautiful isn't it ? Ace photos as usual.

They even visit the UK now.

As I say, things are changing. Not so many years ago one had to go much further south - eg France - to see a common egret, let alone a cattle egret.

yep cattle egret usually white with the sandy/red coloured beak except in the height of the breeding season (Nov to early Jan in oz) when it is this colour.

you were lucky to get such a magnificent photo.

It's probably Sheila and her best mate Shazza. Usually they're found down by the local watering hole, but you did well to find them at home with the little ones.

    Kudos to you Regwah!
