    Do I understand you correctly?

It was jailbroken at 4.1. In order to update to 5.1.1 you restored in itunes to a stock 5.1.1 ipsw, which would unjailbreak your phone, and then presumably you'd use redsn0w to rejailbreak it?

Are SHSH blobs an issue for ipods? They must be. Do you have blobs for 5.1.1, including the APTicket portions? If you've opened Cydia at least once during each window you may well have the blobs you need saved already. Because without 5.1.1 blobs I don't think you can install 5.1.1 (unless that's the last version of iOS supported for your device.)

Anyway, do I understand you? Have you restored to a clean 5.1.1 ipsw, presumably signed with the blobs via redsn0w?

You would get a pretty obvious error if it was a signing issue. The fact that it completed the upgrade but got stuck in reboot says io me it's probably pretty minor. You may be there without knowing it.

Try throwing it into DFU mode and jailbreaking with Redsn0w. Just hold the two buttons down until the Apple goes away, count to 2, then release the power button. Do this while you're parked on the "jailbreak" screen in redsn0w andit will take over.

If this doesn't work you should throw the device in pwned DFU mode and re-restore in itunes.

Oh, make sure your /hosts file doesn't contain any redirects for apple servers. gs.apple.com, for example. Pound that out if it's there - it's preventing itunes from calling home.

The hosts file is in /etc. ON a PC I have no idea where it lives. Maybe next to the clippy thing. But do check your hosts file.

That's all I can think of.
