    Metal(Different types)

right now, theres a new genre of metal called djent.

The Swedish band Meshuggah \\ are credited as the inspirations for the djent technique. The movement itself emerged from the solo recordings of Misha Mansoor of Periphery(misha is indian), with Periphery subsequently bringing djent "from the virtual world into the real one."

Djent, in its original meaning, is a heavily digitally processed power chord, and is the name for an elastic, syncopated guitar riff.

Most people use 8 string guitars for djent.

I don't know about an innovation, because what's the last musical innovation you can name? However, I think rock music will have a resurgence sometime soon, and I mean proper rock, none of this whiney crap. :)

Virtual bands, virtual choruses, virtual orchestras.

I don't mean bands made with imaginary musicians. I mean bands made up of real musicians but collaborating over great distances using the Internet. They'll get together using an online conferencing service, and anyone who can't make it to the group recording session can still add their part later on.
