Normally you do not use the projectors sound, or as a preamplifier to control sounds as its only stereo and not in the right place to add speakers to it as its normally in the middle of the room. So the sounds system is typically separate and then video is run to the projector. This would most certainly be the way to go and especially if your wanting surround sound.
So a surround sound receiver, and 5.1 speakers. But honestly there are allot of cheaply made and bad sounding inexpensive systems on the market so your much better off spending a decent amount a couple grand at least to get something decent.
If your simply just wanting to get louder sound and dont mind it being just stereo then buy a pair of powered monitors and plug them into either a variable audio output if the projector has them or come off the audio outputs of the blu ray player. Tannoy 501a for $350 a pair are the best thing you'll find for the money.
