Yes, you can swap between TV types.

Just use the appropriate cable for the TV, either composite/component or HDMI.

Then, when you turn on the PS3, press and HOLD the power button for about 5 - 6 seconds (I think you get an extra beep).

That tells it to look at what type of TV is connected and it will give you a menu to set up the video format - it does not affect anything else on the machine.

Yeah, as well as HDMI, ps3 also has the standard playstation AV output. Which as been used since playstation 1 for connecting to TV's Any Playstation, or PS2 Composite cable, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Playstation-PS2-PSX-RCA-Ca... (yellow, red, and white plugs) will work with it. The PS3, also originally was supplied with this cable, so you may still have it. If not you can get them super cheap from sites such as Ebay, and Amazon. If the TV has Scart though, I would recommend using a scart cable, as they produce a much better picture. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Xett-Scart-Lead-Cable-Play...

Yes it is possible you will need a converter first though, your PS3 comes with one in the box, so have a look at it, it's normally an AV converter (has a red, yellow and possibly white cable).
