forget Karate, and try jujitsu, that is more grappling and joint locking based, it also includes using someones own strength, weight and force against them, with some easy throws and pressure points thrown in for good measure

Source(s): they also encourage you to do weapons practice

When you decide to begin training in martial art you have some questions you have to answer for yourself. Are you looking for a sport to play, an art to dedicate a lifetime to, or a quick fix method of self defence? Some combination of that perhaps? Most of us are, or were all three at times. Where do your priorities lie? You must first decide martial art , or fighting sport. The two are worlds apart, although they overlap in several areas, their mindset, and intent are opposite. You have to know also what is available to you. If you have Uechi-Ryu, and Bak Mei in your area, wanting to do TKD would not help you. Of the available options you must decide which one(s) interest you. Then you have to decide (take your time, it's important) which available instruction is the one for you. You can change or quit if you don't like it, but better to stay with the program right through (providing the program is a good one) for the best training. Style-hopping has in my experience cost many a martial artist their potential, so choose wisely, nobody here can tell you what to do for you. So do your homework well. Talk to instructors and students, watch classes, take 'free introductory' classes, make your decision. One more thing, good luck

All styles of Karate were developed for self defense, with the exception of a few taught in a more sport minded format. But regardless, they were designed to protect the user. What matters most in martial arts is a good instructor. Style is irrelevant when you have that. Sure your allowed to have your preferences, I have mine, but don't let that get in the way of learning.

Previously you have said you are studying Aikido. Why not continue with such?

One might also ask how often you intend to post and re-post the same questions? It is now beginning to look as though you are a "troll" and not worth answering.

    Be well

Karate offers a complete step by step curriculum. You will be awarded colored belts as you move through the system. So if you are someone who likes to be able to chart your progress and move forward in a structured manner. This will be an attractive method of learning.

I won't do karate or anything else similar such as taekwondo, kick boxing and so on. I suggest doing aikido, jig jutsu or do judo even though that is more of a sport but you can still use judo in real life. I suggest Aikido. If you are able to do Krav Maga, do that. So there for aikido, judo, krav Maga, jiu jutsu be the ones.

BJJ is a good practise if you are looking to start MMA (i noticed from previous questions). Its focuses alot on grappling and holds which are an essential part in MMA. Its also involves other attacking techniques.

Oh and its just a matter of stretching over a period of maybe 5-6 weeks and you become alot more flexible allowing you to do higher kicks and spin kicks.
