What do colleges look for?! GPA/SAT/Classes?
Well, so let's start.
My freshmen year and sophomore wasn't all that great. My GPA for both year was about a 2.9. All classes were honored classes. Now, I am a junior, I am doing very well, taking 2 AP classes, my yearly average will turn out to be about 4.3, which is higher than a 4.0. I am currently maintaining a 4.3, just got my midterm, and the calculated GPA is 4.3. Now, next year will be my last year. I will be taking 6 AP classes, AP English, Physics (2 blocks), Multivariable Calculus, Government, and computer science, I will try to do anything to get a full A streak for those classes which will give me a 5.0 Average for senior year. Do college look at these classes? Do they look at the math and science that I've taken during my senior year? Or do they solely look at my GPA? Because with the 2.9 GPA from Freshmen and Sophomore year, this year and next year's GPA combined, it'll result only a 3.7-3.8 which looks terrible for colleges. Will they base their decisions on my past grades? I've never gotten lower than a C in my whole high school career, I am just worried that they will look at my 3.8 weighted GPA and not look at those AP classes. Throughout my high school years, I've taken only honored and AP, but the grades as you can see isn't as good as it would of been.. The "trend" that people talk about a lot, which you start out with a little lower grade and improve as the year goes on, it'll definitely show that here, but my concern is that, if college look at the trend, then they will "suppose" that I never tried in my first two years of high school, is this bad? What do I do? Should I be as concerned as I should be? My PSAT's were around 200, which is about 2000 for SAT, my math were around 700, and the English and writing were slightly lower. Will this average out between the SAT and GPA? Please help!

Ultimately, it matters what school you apply to. USUALLY, publics are more number-oriented while privates are USUALLY more hollistic and look at everything.
For example, the UC system looks heavily on your 10-11 GPA and SAT/ACT (single-sitting). Extracurriculars and essays are still important, but not as important as the test scores and GPA. (For Berkeley and UCLA, essays are really important though). Another thing that is important is course rigor, how hard are the classes that you took. They will definitely look at the AP Classes, dont worry about that. Also, for publics, freshman year is not that important, so you're off the hook. Don't worry, you seem like a qualified candidate for many colleges!! Good luckl!
