    Solve this system by elimination.

    8x + 5y = 22.

    6x + 2y = 13.

    Multiply the first equation by 3, giving

    24x + 15y = 66.

    Multiply the second equation by 4, giving

    24x + 8y = 52.

    Subtract the new #2 from the new #1:

    24x + 15y = 66

    -(24x + 8y = 52)

    -----------------------

    0x + 7y = 14, or

    7y = 14, or

    y = 2.

    Put this into one of the original equations, to solve for x:

    6x + 2(2) = 13, or

    6x + 4 = 13, or

    6x = 9, or

    x = 9/6 = 3/2. The solution point is (3/2,2).

    check:

    8(3/2) + 5(2) = 24/2 + 10 = 12 + 10 = 22 ... yes.

    6(3/2) + 2(2) = 18/2 + 4 = 9 + 4 = 13 ... yes.

    = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

    Solve this system by substitution.

    2x - 3y = 12.

    x - 4y = 6.

    Rearrange one of the equations so as to put one variable in terms of the other. It will be easier with #2.

    Since x - 4y = 6, add 4y to both sides to get

    x = 4y + 6.

    Now this can be used in place of x in the first equation, to solve for y:

    2(4y + 6) - 3y = 12, or

    8y + 12 - 3y = 12, or

    5y + 12 = 12, or

    5y = 0, so

    y = 0.

    Put this into one of the original equations:

    x - 4(0) = 6, or

    x - 0 = 6, or

    x = 6. The solution point is (6,0).

    check:

    2(6) - 3(0) = 12 - 0 = 12 ... yes.

    6 - 4(0) = 6 - 0 = 6 ... yes.

    8x+5y=22

    6x+2y=13

    multiply first equation with 2 and second equation with 5

    2(8x+5y)=2*22

    5(6x+2y)=5*13

    16x+10y=44

    30x+10y=65

    multiply first equation with -

    -16x-10y=-44

    30x+10y=65

    add two equations

    14x=21

    x=21/14=3/2

    x= 3/2

    y=2

    2)

    2x-3y=12

    x-4y=6

    2x-3y=12

    x=6+4y

    substitute x in equation 1

    2(6+4y)-3y=`12

    12+8y-3y=12

    5y=0

    y=0

    x=6
