Why? Why all the wailing and gnashing of teeth concerning the Hall of Fame voting?
Quote follows: "Voting shall be based upon the player's record, playing ability, integrity, sportsmanship, character, and contributions to the team(s) on which the player played."
That's it! Those are the instructions on the Hall of Fame ballot. All are very subjective in tone if not in fact.
Hello NickP! Your guys all had integrity, sportsmanship, and character?
Read the quote again and point out for me the qualifications on which you base your extraordinary statement!

People like to complain. Even myself sometimes.
We all want things our own way for our selfish reasons. When things don't go our way, complaining is often an outlet for us to express ourselves. Not saying it's wrong because everyone does it. Annoying, yes, but hey, even I go on complaining rants too.
Nothing is better that after the All-Star picks though. Love the complaining then. Just gotta grab my popcorn and refresh.......it gets good.

Because there are three things that everyone thinks they can do better than anyone else.
1. Drive.
2. Make love.
3. Vote for the baseball HOF.
Funny we don't get all this concern about the other halls - I don't see any of the same "gnashing of teeth" over whether or not Lyle Alzado belongs in the Football HOF.
Personally I don't care one way or the other. If Bonds or Clemens gets in, it won't change my life one damn bit. And if they both are left hanging out to dry and never get in, that would be fine as well.
The only possible bad that could come out of it would be the idiots that will rush to Pete Rose's defense should someone even possibly connected to steroids is elected.

Because it's human nature to complain about almost everything. Even if one or more players were elected this year, there would be complaints and arguments about why THOSE were elected.
The only time some people are happy is when things go their way....and then only until some other thing goes against them. Part of the reason for this is the difficulty to keep things in perspective. Especially those things that are out of their control.
Fans should be happy that induction into the Baseball HOF is not easy or automatic - and nobody ever said it would be.

I think some of them should have made it, and were punished for playing in the steroid era.

Well because many players who seemed to definitely have the qualifications for the HoF did not get in. I would've put 7 in.

Because of voters like Ken Gurnick.
"As for players from the Steroid Era, I won't vote for any of them".
