website to list found pictures , papers etc?

i like to junking - going though old trash when people clean out houses , i have found some old pics of a family, really old, im sure someone would have wanted them. Im looking for a website i could scan and postthem on for a family member who might go looking for them.

    by the way...you can trace the ownership of the house, for clues to WHO MIGHT have been in the pics. Ask the neighbors too. Deeds are at the courthouse. I've been working with a cousin to id hundreds of old family photos, many of whom would not be identified as relatives without things like the census, so forth. I even have the address where a relative lived in China in the 1930s, but no means so far to follow through with that one.

    Many libraries archive collections of papers and photographs. Some will scan them and upload them to a website (not many, but some). Donating them to a library is a good way to ensure they're publicly accessible and taken care of.

    Your state archive might also be interested in archiving an interesting collection.
