Is it illegal for a parents to keep mail from the other parent away from their children?

Is it illegal for a parent to take, hide, discard mail sent to their children when it comes from the other parent? Divorce situation and all content is appropriate.

Update:

The children are minors. I know it is NOT illegal for the parent to open a minor childs mail, but need to know specifically what laws, if any, would be broken if the parent hides or discards the mail without the childrens knowledge.

It falls under parental authority. Parents can control anything coming into the home. If they have FULL CUSTODY, then they can prevent contact.

Not saying it is right, but we have no idea of the parent's reasons.

Not illegal when it is a parent/minor situation. The parent in the home has every right to do what they feel is best for their child.

From adult to adult if the minor is now over 18 and no longer a minor, then yes, it is a federal offense and very illegal.

Probably, but it's not like you could prove it. How do you prove you never got something? Unless the other parent sent it certified mail, the other parent can just say "nope never got that, sorry"

I think it is illegal-a federal offense
