1991 Ford F 150 - How to remove the coupler off of a wiring harness?

On the turn signal switch on a 1991 Ford F150 with tilt column, the directions say to remove the coupler off of the wiring harness being careful to mark the wiring positions. Can anyone tell me how to remove the coupler off of the end of the wiring harness?

Typically: You start with the connector disconnected from the component. There is usually a red retainer on the inside of the connector, between the pins. Pull out the retainer. There are small plastic tabs that hold the metal pins in the connector. One wire at a time, you have to use a small pick or needle to hold up the tabs while pulling the wire out the back side of the connector.

FYI, Ford offers many "pigtails" which are the connector with new wires already in them. You just cut the wire on your damaged harness and use the provided splices to attach the pigtail to the harness.

    Hope this helps you.
