Can you surf in Long Beach, CA?

I live in long beach , ca and I surf. I usually go down to sunset beach or huntington beach, but I want to start surfing here. I haven't been to the beach here for a while so I don't remember how big the waves are. Are they big enough to surf on?

**By they way, I'd be surfing near where the queen mary is, not bay shore. And I don't care about the crappy water, I just need to surf somewhere closer to home.

Update:

I can't go see for myself since I'm not allowed to leave my house (I live in a really bad area right now) but I'm moving to the beach in a few weeks

Unfortunately, the only surf in LB is at 72nd and 64 streets near bay shore, and only on certain swells that get around the break walls. There is nothing near downtown LB. This why you should join the battle to get rid of the LB break water. http://www.lbsurfrider.org/sink-the-breakwater/bre...

I would recommend you keep going to Sunset and Huntington since there is more room and HB picks up most swells. I would stay away from Pedro unless you are a good surfer and can deal with some local bad vibes.

There aren't to many spots around the QM to surf go towards Pedro, if you go straight down Gaffey there are some pretty good breaks but don't get in those guys way, their alright after you get to know them
