Does restoring my laptop to factory conditions erase all of my personal data?

I want to sell my old laptops to one of those places that gives you cash for old/broken electronics. They say they wipe the hard drive when they receive it, but you can never be too careful of course.

So if I do a complete system restore to factory conditions on my Toshiba laptop, will it get rid of all my personal information and make it safe to sell?

It's probably a stupid question, but I'm not very tech-savvy so thank you for your time/answers :)

Yeah it will but there are safer ways of doing it than that. you just delete or use a free program like file shredder and then wipe the free space.

Even data recovery equipment can't get it then, its possible but highly improbable if you use fac restore there are ways of getting to the data even after the disk has been formatted. at least if you use the above method you are sure your stuff has gone, and theres always a risk the factory restore will fail, or there is no actual recovery partition just because it says on the splash screen doesn't mean it will work.

sorry but i have worked in the trade and whilst we always TRY to be optimistic, experience, on the other hand has taught me otherwise.

YES, it does. Factory restore will bring the laptop to like new, out of the box condition.

What are they paying for it?

Maybe I'll give you more, contact me with the specs and condition for that Toshiba laptop.

I have the E1505. It has an option of backup that can be accessed by means of hitting the F12 key. If you wish to soar to the DELL computer repair which you can try Ctrl+F11 (Dell installs it on some methods and it doesn't on others; it is as per some ideas). Satisfactory alternative will likely be to verify your handbook it is going to have the right expertise detailed to your mannequin / area. In case you ain't ready to find in your manual in case your pc has dell restore investigate C:dellutilitiesdsr folder if it exists OR that you can check the difficult pressure from: computer administration (compmgmt.Msc) -> Storage -> Disk administration, for a reserved partition which can't be edited and is on the of the force.

    Yes, it will.

Be aware that any business that will buy it for cash will give you about half (or less) what you could get for the same item if you sell it privately or on Ebay.

Search on ebay for similar machines & go to 'Completed items' in the left column, to see what they really sell for before making your mind up.
