    In the top equation, move 4x to the other side so that y is by itself. You can do this by subtracting 4x from each side: y = 8 - 4x

    Now, substitute this value in place of y in the second equation:

    5x + 2(8 - 4x) = 13

    Distribute the 2 through the terms in the brackets:

    5x + 16 - 8x = 13

    Move 16 to the other side of the equation and collect like terms:

    5x - 8x = 13 - 16

    -3x = -3

    Divide each side by -3 to get x by itself:

    x = 1

    Now substitute this value in place of x in the first equation:

    y + 4(1) = 8

    y + 4 = 8

    y = 4

    I hope this helps!

    2y + 8x = 16

    5x+2y=13

    subtract first equation by second.

    3x = 3

    x = 1

    insert answer into first equation

    2y + 8 = 16

    2y=8

    y=4

    Check using equation 2.

    5+8 = 13

    therefore x=1, y=4

    1) y + 4x =8

    You divide 4x from both sides , soo.. 4x divided by 8 will equal 2.

    y=2

    2) 5x+2y=13

    you subtract 2 from 13

    5x=11

    divide 5 from both side and you will get 2.5
