Will I be charged if I put my SIM card from a non-smartphone into a smartphone?

I have this shitty samsung phone right now, but I was curious if I would be charged for putting the SIM card from ****-phone into this windows phone. I don't plan on using the internet on it unless I'm on the wi-fi at my house btw.

Depends on your cell phone carrier, you may get mandatory data charges or you may not.
