Angelfish tankmates 56 gallon tank?

So, I was wondering what fish will get along with 1 or 2 angelfish in a 56 gallon collumn style tank. It is cycling right now and has hiding spots and a bunch of live plants and I'm trying to figure out what to put in it and angelfish seem pretty cool. and yes I know they are aggresive but I am just wondering what fish will get along with them and what would be better 1 angelfish or 2 angelfish.

Thanks in advanced :)

A pair is much better. Letting them grow out while they are young will let them know each other much more and be playful and happy. They are semi agressive fish. A reason why they sometimes can get agressive because they are cichlids after all. One of the best fish Ive had in my tanks. So smart and amazing as they grow older. They come up to greet you while you open the lid and open their mouth to beg for food. Almost like dogs.

I always liked rainbow fish and the bigger tetra. No neons since they will get eaten as they are a natural prey of angelfish in the wild.

    - 2 angels.

    - Boesmani Rainbows 6 or 5.

    - corydoras any kind. Pygmy cory's, panda cory's, albino cory's any variety.

    - Diamond tetra or Bleeding Heart tetra a school of about 6.

    - Long fin Cherry Barb 6

Theres alot more of a variety this is just my opinion on a nice stocking.

1 or 2 Angels would be fine.

If you want 2, I highly suggest either purchasing a proven pair, or getting 6 or so juvaniles, letting a pair form, and then returning the rest from whence they came. (Be sure if you chose the latter, that you check with the store from which the fish are purchased to ensure that they allow returns.)

Angelfish can not be reliably sexed except for when they are oserved breeding. 2 males will fight.

Good tankmates for Angels include other smaller SA Cichlids, Larger Tetras, Rainbowfish, Corys, Loaches, smaller/peaceful Barbs, Larger Rasboras, smaller Plecos, and Livebeareres.

Here's what I'd do, were it my tank.

    - 2 Angels.

    - 6 Roseline/Torpedo Barbs.

    - 6 Diamond Tetras.

    Or maybe:

    - 2 Angels.

    - 5 Boesemani Rainbowfish.

    - 5 Cherry Barbs.

    - 6 Corys.

    Something along those lines.

    Good luck.

One is much better. I started with three and two paired up and beat the other one, which was actually larger, half to death within a day or two. I transferred her to a 40 gallon community. Never did I see any aggression towards the other fish or vice-versa.

I left the pair in the 55 gallon and they started spawning every two weeks. Very aggressive to the other fish which stayed literally in the other half. Finally had to take them and give them their own 20gallon high.

So, stick to one, they are mellow when by themselves. You could pick almost anything. I put my third wheel back in my 55 and have many small schools of small tetras, danios, barbs and a few platies.

    These are favorites of mine:

Gold Pristellas (good schoolers and colored)

Longfinned black and white skirts(interact with each other by flaring)

Gold Mountain Clouds(new color and top swimmers),

Bloodfin Tetras(very tight schooling and always moving all over tank).

These are a few that really show in a community tank.

They are not too agressive. You could do a school of tetras. Almost any tetra that is large enough not to be eaten will be fine. You could also do a school of corydoras. The column style tank does limit the number of fish that can be kept in it, so just make sure you don't add too much.

Angelfish are aggressive as quickly as the type mating pairs. A single angelfish is solid in case you like it to stay marvelous, yet there's a threat it could one yet another small fishes such as neon tetras. to circumvent that, purchase the angelfish whilst that's small, that way that's used to the small fishes.
