Why this factor about a best friend is important?

A real friend cheers you up when you are feeling run down.

Because, it shows how much they care about you, and want to make you happy. A real best friend knows how to make you smile, or comfort/listen to you when you're going through something that's affected your life.

That's important for some people and it's definitely good to have someone in your life for that, but you can't expect one person or friend to be everything.

Personally I'd prefer that my "real friends" be honest and not lying buttkissers. If I'm bummed because the latest story I wrote sucks, I don't need people telling me that I'm wrong and it's actually really good when I know it isn't. I value honesty opinions more than just being constantly supportive. The truth is, I have ideas that SHOULDN'T be blindly encouraged, only I won't realize that until it's in hindsight. A real friend might key me on beforehand.

Source(s): This is a stressful month for me and I'm finding a lot of people are trying to "cheer me up". The thought is sweet, but my real friends know I'd prefer a distraction than talking about it at all.
