How to tell if my tungsten ring contains cobalt?

I've bought a tungsten carbide ring that I've been wearing for some time now and I'm wondering if it contains cobalt. My finger hasn't turned green from wearing the ring and my ring hasn't undergone any tarnishing. However the ring doesn't seem to shine as much as it did when I first bought it. Aren't tungsten carbide rings supposed to maintain a permanent shine? Does the loss of the shine indicate the presence of cobalt?

Most tungsten rings do not have cobalt. I've been wearing a tungsten ring since 2004 when they first came onto the market. With that said though, there are different qualities of tungsten carbide. Mine is the patented TC850, which is the highest quality tungsten carbide available. You might be having an allergic reaction to nickel if your finger is turning green. Nickel is used as a binder between the tungsten and the carbon. Some of the Chinese jewelry manufacturers use a lower quality tungsten carbide formula requiring more nickel to be used, so this could be your problem. Who is the mfg of your ring? If it is Benchmark, Jewelry Innovations or Triton, you should not be having any issues since they are the only three manufacturers producing TC850.
