Roses like their roots cool, but they appreciate the full sun on their branches and leaves. Move the roses to the sun, but shade or cool the roots in the pots by shading the pots only. And if they're in pots, they will need lots of water and regular fertilizing--more than if they were planted in the soil. Potted plants dry out faster and tend to be smaller. You really should plant the roses directly in the ground so you can mulch the roots and let them spread out more.

Roses need full sun but because theyre in pots you have the option to move them to a spot where they get some afternoon shade depending on how hot your summers get. The idea is to give them a bit of shade during the hotest part of the day if you can. Just look at your garden during peak day time heat to find a spot that gives them shade during that time only. If u can keep their soil moist and cool then they can stay in full sun all day even in the heat of summer. Use water storage crystals in the potting mix or organic matter ie compost or well broken down manure etc to help hold moisture in ur pots. Mulch ur pots like ur garden beds this stops evaporation from the soil surface. The type of pot used is important too. Plastic pots heat up faster especially black plastic. Plant roots can 'cook' in hot pots even when moist. Terracotta pots are cool for plant roots because moisture soaks into terracotta and cools ur pot as it evaporates but because of this they loose more moisture than other types of pots. Glazed stone or terracotta may be a better option they stay almost as cool as terracotta but because of the glazing dont loose moisture through the pot wall. Experiment a bit and see wat works for you. Water water water dont b afraid to water more than once during hot times if u can. Water untill it flows freely from the bottom of ur pot but take care to only water the soil not the plant foliage roses easily get fungal diseases from humdity/moisture in and around the leaves. A good water during the heat of the day will cool the roots as well as provide a refreshing drink. And finally if ur roses wilt easily no matter what u do consider reducing their size a little. All plants loose moisture through their leaves so if the plant above the soil is larger than the plant below the soil (the root ball in the pot) chances are its loosing more moisture through its leaves on a hot day than its roots can replace. Maybe also consider a bigger pot. Bigger pot = bigger root ball.

They will need sun no matter what. Keep them cool by mulching densely with a good hardwood mulch, NOT plastic or rubber which can cook the roots. Also, water them only first thing in the morning to avoid fungal diseases common to roses in warmer climates. Spraying them every 10 days with liquid seaweed will condition them against stress (from heat or drought or cold).

It varies by the type of rose. Some need full sun, some need more shade. Look at the tag on it when you buy it. The tag tells you the soil, climate and amount of sun needs for each type.

if you can shade the pots with other pots and plants, that would work good.... set up bushy plants that are not very tall so that their shade falls on the rose's pot..... or..... set the rose pot inside a much larger pot and surround the rose pot with mulch to insulate its pot from the sun's heat.... continue the mulch up and over the soil of the rose pot.....

this tree is in a white pot and surrounded with other plants, for example...
