How to edit videos / what to use?

Okies so I've got this project I've got to do and it involves taking lots of short videos and then I'll need to stick them all together if that makes sense? Like to make a short film type of thing. Anyways I'm just wondering which site/software would be best for this and how I'd use it (I'm not good with computers) like i really have no idea, Ive got one called AVS Video Editor and Converter but I cant figure out how to stick the clips together and have effects in between them, help?!?!

Try Avidemux, which is free-as-in-freedom, simple in use and available for the 3 major platforms (Windows, Linux, and last but not least (Cr)Apple's Mac OS line)

If you've got the second one, try Pitivi, even simpler.

You can even use Blender, a general-purpose 3D and video program, available for 4 systems.

Nowadays it's mostly drag-and-drop - import clips, drag onto the timeline, clip them with simple select & delete/backspace.

DO NOT use Windows Movie Maker as the other guy said (in a bigoted manner, as he assumes your system is the obsolete Windows XP (it's not included in 7 or it varies per license, so maybe it's only in Ultimate, and it's not available for the other systems)) - it'll look cheesy and unprofessional. When one sees the trademark SFX (venetian blinds? Pitch, blease) and white text on a blue background, the video's author is going to be ridiculed. If you absolutely must - drag stuff and drop it, it's as simple as that.

yes, if you import each clip into the windows movie maker that you should have on your PC, it should separate itself from the other clips, and you can add effects/transitions from there!

Windows movie maker is a good one it should already be on you computer.

    HOPE THIS HELPED:)
