They want a quality audio file

They want a file that is designed to interface with iTunes, and avoids glitches

They want to support (financially) the artists that made the music

They have integrity/morals and don't want to steal

    They're not cheap

They like the graphic (picture) that comes along with a song bought from iTunes

They like the way iTunes tracks purchases and allows features such as Genius and Complete My Album

They like the convenience of iTunes gift cards and the ability to instantly download and listen to a song

There are lots of other reasons, I'm sure.

Your question is quite broad, so I will try my best to answer with logic

    Why are such videos uploaded?

    1. On the assumption that video upload is done by the actual artist - or with permission

    - Cost effective way to promote song to worldwide audience (google "Gangnam Style")

    - if a YouTube partner, they can actually make money from the number of "views" they get (based on advertising revenue)

    2. In the case that first assumption is not true - then there is likely chance that video was uploaded without permission and/or illegally

    - it is likely to be taken down at some point due to copyright infringement.

Why do people buy songs from iTunes when they can download songs freely from YouTube?

    1. Some people actually want to support the artists financially, on moral grounds or because they are fans and would enjoy future releases from the artists

    2. For fear of prosecution - copyright is legally enforceable in many jurisdictions. In fact, in the UK, ISP's are legally responsible for disclosing potential illegal internet activities. Also, don't forget, the entertainment industries have powerful lobbies for governments, and have the resources to pursue legal claims against individuals.

    3. Convenience - downloading from iTunes can be spurred by impulse - it is instantaneous and quick, and relatively cheap. A cost of a download is 69p (or 99c in USA), which is cheaper than a chocolate bar, and most people in the UK have no problems spending this kind of money.

Perhaps in India, law enforcement is insufficient, and is not such a factor. I also presume that most people in India live in extreme poverty - and cannot afford 69p (or 99 cents) anyway, hence they would resort to downloading music in this way.

    I hope this helps.

One reason is that iTunes have much higher quality than whatever you download from YouTube and other free music sites. Another reason is because like supporting the artists they listen to.

Downloading music without paying for it is technically steeling.

And the artists don't put their music up there, supporting companies do in order to get publicity for the artist and get their music out there. They'd probably be better using previews. Also most of the music on YouTube has been paid for and then put up by random users which in turn ends up with the music stolen by thousands of people online.

Source(s): Personally I download free stuff for my phone and buy the CDs (phone doesn't support the CD format and seems to refuse anything that's been converted to mp3 for some unknown reason)

Because it's cheaper to just buy the song for under £1 / $1 than it is to pay c. £200+ an hour to pay a Solicitor to defend you in court if/when you get your *** sued by the music company's legal team for pirating.

I buy them because I'm an atheist, and therefore don't steal.
