Wireshark tracing packets on network(wireless modem)?
Hi I am new to wireshark,have a limited knowledge on networking that aside I am a netowrking college student anyway I would like to know how I can trace all the traffic on my network(***I use a cisco wireless modem which my PC is connected too,this is the PC I am using wireshark from***) how can I trace all this traffic because right know I'm just getting packets from the PC which I'm using and have all of the interfaces checked.

The answer is that you cannot easily trace all of the traffic on your network. I use Wireshark for trouble shooting, and in an enterprise switch, you can mirror port traffic from one port to another. So I can connect my PC to a switch port, configure the port that I want to monitor and mirror that port to my port. Then I can see the traffic going to and from that device, including the uplink port. If you want to monitor the network link it might be possible. You would have to have two Ethernet ports on your computer, bridge them so that the traffic would flow from one port to the other and use wireshark on one of the ports. Otherwise go on ebay and buy an enterprise switch.
