How do you feel about the Vatican & 46 other religious leaders praising Obama’s gun safety proposals?

The Vatican, as like any other religion, may propose concepts or raise concerns regarding social issues that effect the welfare of the people. The expression of discontent with the loss of innocent life, due to the horrific choices of those who decide to violate laws is actually a noble pursuit. The laws in the USA however, and rights, are written for law abiding citizens, and we must not alter our rights to accommodate those who chose to do evil. There is the possibility to enact a responsible approach regarding social ills that contribute to these tragedies, yet any policy developed in haste is certain to be the cause of unnecessary harm to otherwise law abiding citizens.

There is one consideration however, that must be recognized and that is that religion may not be the reason to alter American laws. While concern is welcome, religion may not change laws or force alterations on the greater society. In the USA, a free market or variety of social options do exist through the legal system to allow resolution via the legal system.

There are plenty of God fearing people who have faith, that do not care to give up their rights regarding gun control. Hopefully, the religion does not take the stance and make compliance with the proposed policy, a requirement as an indication of faith in God.

Religion may not be used to compete with the laws and especially the rights of a society, edit: There already exist the high standards of law and social resources to resolve the issues contributing to the tragedies--gun control is not the answer but more effective resolution consistent with the rights of each individual before there is a tragedy.
