What can Faraday Cage block?

What can a Faraday cage block? If I were in a room wrapped in a foil or mesh cage could I use my cell phone? Wifi? What "what" I mean what frequency ranges. I hear compasses work inside the cage so what works and doesn't work?

Depends on how is the the cage constructed. If solid metal, it will block all frequencies.

If foil, it depends on the "skin depth" (look it up in Wikipedia).

If it is made with mesh, it will block all wavelengths roughly longer than the mesh size.

Static magnetic fields (such as the one that acts on a compass) are not affected by most metals.

I do not thinks so, the faraday cage is meant to behavior electrical power and distribute it then ground it. I don't do not forget listening to that it blocked incoming indicators (or outgoing) which do not maintain electrical currents. On the other hand I could be flawed. Edit: i'm speaking a few faraday "cage" no longer a faraday box (is there any such thing as aa faraday field?:)

A Faraday cage's operation depends on the fact that an external static electrical field causes the electric charges within the cage's conducting material to be distributed such that they cancel the field's effect in the cage's interior. This phenomenon is used, for example, to protect electronic equipment from lightning strikes and electrostatic discharges.
