Help with uninstalling Avast?

So I went to the control panel etc. to uninstall the program. Well, the program is still here. There are still folders in my program files and I went to delete them manually and it won't let me. If I click on the arrow at the bottom right of my screen next to my battery life the icon for Avast is still there. I tried redownloading the program and it just tells me to reboot my computer and so I did but nothing happened.

Help please?

Update:

Because I just don't want it. I have another program and I heard that having more than one antivirus program is not good. It won't let me update it. If I do a system restore to go back before I had the program uninstalled would that work?

    Hello GirlyGirl,

First, what other security software do you have?? Most important to your issue. If it turns out the "Other" program is a antivirus software, then you would be correct. Please edit your question with this information so we can better assist you. If you have say Malwarebytes' or SUPERAntiSpyware, those are fine as they are NOT a antivirus software

To remove Avast @ Their instructions:

    Uninstall Utility

Sometimes it´s not possible to uninstall avast! the standard way - using the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS in control panel. In this case, you can use our uninstallation utility aswClear.

How to uninstall our software using aswClear:

    Download aswclear.exe on your desktop

    >>>>>Start Windows in Safe Mode<<<<<

    Open (execute) the uninstall utility

If you installed avast! in a different folder than the default, browse for it. (Note: Be careful! The content of any folder you choose will be deleted!)

    Click REMOVE

    Restart your computer

    Source(s): Amazing Protection Antivirus Software : http://moveantivirus.com/?sPdx
  • Go to Control Panel\Default Programs\Programs and Features find the program and double click it and uninstall. If that doesn't work boot into safe mode and try the same method. If still doesn't work try to shred the program with WISE Care 365.Get the program, Update it to the latest version and close the program. Now open it again and go to Privacy Protector\File Shredder\Click add directory and go to the place that avast is installed in.open it and click shred. That's it.You're done. I recommend ESET Smart Security 6.The best antivirus program ever made.
